April 15, 2008 - New: Ogun Inline. Azbuka family renamed 'Ogun'.
Ògún™, a CastleType Original, was inspired by an Egyptian-style Russian block alphabet (original designer unknown) that caught my eye in the book, ABZ: More Alphabets and Other Signs. It was interesting to start with Cyrillic letters and then create Latin letters based on them, instead of my usual method of doing Latin first. Ògún was formerly named 'Azbuka' (Russian for 'alphabet') in acknowledgment of the design's origins. However, in order to avoid confusion with another foundry's font by that name, I decided to rename it after the Yorúbà warrior deity, Ògún, to represent the strength, straight-forwardness, and virility of this design. 
November 28, 2007 - Carisma: Now with 5 weights!
Carisma™, a CastleType Original, combines the elegance of classic capitals, the simplicity of clean-cut, geometric lowercase letters and the warmth of sensuous curves, subtle contrasts and sensitively tapered terminals, making it the perfect typeface for an understated, modern, sophisticated look.
November 19, 2007 - Shàngó™ Gothic released.
Shàngó™ is CastleType's beautifully rendered interpretation of Professor F.H.E. Schneidler's elegant titling typeface released in 1936 with the name 'Schneidler-Mediaeval mit Initialen'. (The latter design is usually referred to as Schneidler Initials.) Although early on Medium and Bold weights were added to the somewhat delicate design of Shàngó, it seemed there were other possibilities that might be useful for display use. So, for the last couple of years I have been working on and off on a monoline version of Shàngó. This new design maintains the classic letterforms of the original, but its relatively even strokes gives it a more solid appearance, making it useful where a modern, masculine look is needed. The new subfamily is called Shàngó Gothic and is available in four weights: Regular, Medium, Bold, and Extra Bold. A bundled package including all four weights of this gorgeous, downright sexy design is available for only $117, a savings of $79.00!
October 7, 2007 - Shàngó™, now with more flair!

August 28, 2007 - New CastleType Original: Brasileiro™.
Be sure to check out one of the newer CastleType Originals, Brasileiro. This is a new art deco design inspired by the seven letters used for the logotype of the Brazilian magazine 'Para Todos' from the 1920s. Described as "great fun" and "impressionante e exuberante", Brasileiro captures the playful and joyful spirit of Brazil. |
