A major multinational corporation needed a consistent look for their in-house documents, which were produced on both Macintosh and Windows machines. However, the typeface family they were using for their corporate identity was only available at the time for Macintosh from one vendor, and for Windows from another. Unfortunately, the two versions of the typeface were noticably different. In addition, the company needed another weight of the typeface that was not available anywhere, and they wanted everything to look perfect at 10-point on low-resolution (300-dpi) printers! CastleType designed a proprietary version of the typeface that incorporated the best features of the two commercially available interpretations, created a new weight, and delivered PostScript and TrueType formats for both Macintosh and Windows. And, yes, at 10-point, even at 300-dpi resolution, the fonts looked better than the versions they had licensed from the two big-name type foundries.

For the cosmetic giant, [Shiseido], CastleType was commissioned to create two new weights of their proprietary font designed by the world-famous type designer, Adrian Frutiger. Under the exacting supervision of Shiseido's creative director, two new weights were created that complement the Frutiger originals. (Click example at left to enlarge.)

CastleType was commisioned by Publish magazine to digitize several typefaces for their redesign in 1991: Agency Gothic Condensed, Agency Gothic Open, Metropolis Bold, and Trio Light (right). Other magazines that have commissioned fonts from CastleType include: Outside, San Francisco Focus, House & Garden, and Forbes. (Click on example at right to enlarge.)

Whether reproduced in ink, stone, or metal, CastleType fonts look gorgeous! At left is a 4-inch tall, stainless steel 'cake topper' custom designed for [White Crush Wedding]. You might recognize this as Palace Script, but it has been angled far to the left to keep the letters from tipping over on the wedding cake! This job had exacting specs, but the results are stunning!
